Mouse and Rat Infested? Oh My!

The days certainly have been good!  Recently I've been brought inside more often--ends up that there is a newly discovered secret to that:  The less you scratch the more you get brought in!, and (your probably thinking, wait there's more?  I thought being brought inside by your pets and allowed to suckle and drool on a micro-fleece blanket was good enough!  Wrong.  THERE IS MORE! )some humans farther down the street are totally mouse and rat infested...YAY!  So everytime I want the thrill of a hunt or something, I just prance down the driveway with my tail up in the air, trot aross the street, walk up another driveway, and then I'm in mouse  and rat heaven!  The mice and the rats are squealing left and right, making it easy for me to find them, so then I snap into action!  First I locate one of those furry pests.  Easy.  Then I slowly get into the butt wiggle position.  You know, where you crouch down, lift your butt in the air slightly, and wiggle it around until you can't contain your excitement anymore.  That.  Next, I pounce.  And then they'll run.  And then I'll tear a ligment off or something,  And then they'll limp.  And then I swat them across the yard, and then they'll hobble.  Next if I'm not to hungry, I'll watch them think they're getting away. And watch.  And keep watching.  Then I run and snatch them up in my mouth by their back--being careful not to kill them!  Why would I want to kill my new playmate just seconds after meeting him?  That's just inhumane..er..infeline!  At this point I have three options: I leave the thing as a treat for my pets--yes, sometimes I do go out of my way to make them feel comfortable, and spend energy on them!  My other option could be that I eat it.  Ugh, I'm usually not that hungry.  Or I could drop it under my pets carport, and let it wobble and hobble away.  Usually stage 3 is just a round about way to get to stage 1 or 2 though, because after I let it limp around my house for a little while, I get sick of the filthy vermin.  So where was I?  Oh yes.  The pleasures of winter have been wondeful!

A hospital bed.  Wha…?  Why? Again?  Nugget’s bleary yellow eyes struggled to adjust to the brightness of the cold, concrete room he was being kept in.  A long row of hospital beds lined the endless, grimy wall, but his eyes were too unfocused to see them.  Instead, it was the smell of weak alcohol cleaner that told him exactly where he was. Nugget tried to push himself up onto his legs, but a sharp, stabbing feeling rent his stomach.

Button’s paws pressed against the iron door, supporting her as she stood up on her two hind legs and tried to peer down the long, narrow row of identical white cells.  The only thing different about each individual cell were the foul creatures that inhabited them, and really, Button thought, even they didn’t seem to vary much in size or demeanor.

As if the threat of a comet bound for the Solera Station didn’t seem looming enough, with the entire ship induced into a nervous, whispered panic, Subcommander Ocee could only keep from biting her claws and resisting the impulse to shrink away into a tight cranny—a box, a nook in the insulation, a raccoon trap—anything would do, really, to get away from this news:  Lieutenant Lucky had just confirmed that the comet everybody was worried about was only seventeen minutes from impact.
